Robin Alice is the unlikely duo consisting of Los Angeles, CA based vocalist/actress Kelley Jakle and Austin, TX based guitarist Jeff “Horti” Hortillosa. The two met while acting on the set of Pitch Perfect 3, the third installment of the Pitch Perfect series, and one of the highest grossing musicals of all time.
Kelley is a two-time winner of The International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella singers, and a finalist on NBC’s “The Sing-Off”. Those are only a couple accolades that landed her a leading role in the Pitch Perfect series. With jaw-dropping performances such as her National Anthem for the LA Rams in 2018, her voice has been heard by millions. As she continues her career in acting and singing, that global fan base only continues to expand.
Horti, best known as the lead guitar player for Whiskey Shivers, the two-time winners of Austin Music Awards best Bluegrass/Country Band. His tasteful songwriting, tight vocal harmonies, and powerful guitar work are pillars of the Whiskey Shivers jet-fueled punk-meets-folk sound. With nearly two thousand shows under their belt, the bluegrass quintet landed a role in Pitch Perfect 3 due to their infectious energy, witty sense of humor, and a viral Craigslist advertisement called Eye Candy Lawn Service.
During a night off from filming in Atlanta, Kelley and Horti collaborated to sing a few songs at a small dive bar’s pop up show. Although the performance was only four songs, the two immediately recognized their potential and began co-writing songs under the name Robin Alice. Kelley now makes regular visits to Austin for songwriting sessions, laying the groundwork for their upcoming debut EP. They mainly record in Austin TX, at Waterslide Studio, formerly Sam Beam of Iron and Wine’s personal studio.
Together the duo have developed a dreamy sound that comfortably resides between pop and Americana, while dipping its toes into jazz and fuzz rock. Collectively inspired by artist like Alison Krauss and Union Station, Fleetwood Mac, and St. Vincent they perfectly blend beautiful songwriting, and folk harmonies with a mix of female and male leads. Combined with Rock and Roll, Bluegrass, and elements of World music they aim to hark back to their musical influences of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s
